AI recruiter: the conversation layer
The products that call themselves AI recruiters are mostly conversational. A candidate applies, a bot asks screening questions, books an interview slot and sends reminders. The value is response time and consistency across thousands of applicants. Retail, logistics, customer support and other high-volume, similar-role hiring is where this category earns its keep.
The limit shows up on technical and specialist roles. A chatbot can ask "how many years of Go?" but it cannot tell whether the answer is credible, and it cannot read the resume the way a senior engineer would. For a ten-person startup hiring one backend engineer, the conversation layer is solving a problem you do not have yet.
AI ATS: the evaluation layer
An AI ATS keeps the applicant tracking parts you know, then adds a model that reads each resume against the job and produces an explainable score. The good ones do not output a single number. They build a rubric from your job description, score each criterion separately, and show the reasoning so a hiring manager can disagree with a line rather than with a black box.

Do AI headhunters work in Singapore and Indonesia? They work where public profile data is rich, which is true for tech and finance roles in Singapore and for senior tech roles in Indonesia. They work less well for junior and non-tech roles, where most candidates have thin public profiles.
Can an AI ATS replace a recruiter? It replaces the first read of every resume, not the judgement that follows. Recruiters using one spend their time on the top of the list instead of the whole pile.
